Student Leaders Organize Inaugural Inclusion Night

Students work together to program a robot

Empowered by a desire to create a more inclusive world, a passionate group of St. Vrain Valley Schools (SVVSD) students are gearing up to host the district’s first-ever Inclusion Night. Led by high school students Anya Wieder, Claire Schultz, and Whitney Zanini, with the support of teachers Liz Wieder, Erin Quakenbush, and Nathalie Tuhari-Katz, the event aims to bridge gaps and foster a stronger sense of community within SVVSD.

“We’re a passionate team that is committed to learning and evolving to make the world a more accessible place so that everyone can do what they want to do in the way they want to,” the student leaders say in a joint statement.

Inclusion Night, scheduled for April 11th, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the SVVSD Innovation Center (33 Quail Road, Longmont), promises to be a fun-filled and informative evening for all ages and abilities. Spanish interpretation will be provided by the district. Attendees can expect a variety of interactive experiences, including:

  • Interactive demonstrations by Apple representatives
  • Performance by the Mead Unified Percussion ensemble at 5:00
  • Exploration of the exciting world of making and tinkering at the SVVSD Mobile Lab
  • A chance to participate in inclusive stations designed to spark imagination and build connections

“This event is about celebrating the diversity of our school district and ensuring that everyone feels welcome and included,” says Anya Wieder. “We encourage everyone to come out and experience the joy of inclusion firsthand.”

The Inclusion Night planning team is eager to see the event become an annual tradition at SVVSD.

“We believe that inclusion is not just a goal, but a journey,” says Claire Schultz. “Inclusion Night is a chance for us to unite as a community and take a step forward on that journey.”

Inclusion Night demonstrates the student leaders’ ongoing commitment to fostering a more inclusive environment that mirrors the changing face of education and student leadership in our society. The students’ efforts and this event are a testament to SVVSD’s commitment to nurturing academic excellence, social awareness, and active citizenship.

Whitney Zanini adds, “Inclusion Night is a chance for people of all abilities to connect, learn from each other, and celebrate the things that make us unique.”
